I hold my hand to the fire…

Scared

He waited.

He didn’t know why he was waiting. He didn’t know what he was waiting for. But he was sure he had to.

One night, after a thousand nights of empty dreams, he dreamt of a girl with dark, glittering eyes and long brown hair who stood very close to him in the darkness of a rooftop, an unknown city’s shadows spreading away in the night.

She stood close, saying nothing and he could feel her breathing as though she were pressed against him.

Half a moon looked through clouds whose fingers glowed and spread across the bleary stars. On the rooftop, in the shadows, nothing moved but the girl and she barely moved.

Just that…

He couldn’t remember anything more from the dream.

Night after night he thought about that dream, hoping, maybe, to find his way back to it.

A thousand more nights of waiting for a dream that might never come again…

Scared

don’t know what to do about you
I didn’t know that I could still be scared
empty dreams night after night
afraid that you’ll never be there

I could give myself to love
but love would only break my heart
I could give my world to you
but you would tear that little world apart

One day I looked at myself
and then I began again
I built it up and I tore it down
and I won’t do that again

I could give myself to love…

every time I hear I’m doing all right
I know that I’m living a lie
every time that I feel myself start to slip
I hold my hand to the fire

I could give myself to love
but love would only break my heart
I could give my world to you
but you would tear that little world apart

And now for something completely off topic…

I don’t think I’ve ever posted a link to anyone else’s music here before, I don’t think, but I just caught this vid and all I can say is wow…

I never saw Pentangle, myself, but I’ve seen all the members of it at various times over the years — typically playing either solo or in various combinations with each other.

I love this video…

The quality of this video is high enough that you should be able to watch it fairly comfortably in full screen mode — but you’ll have to actually click through the vid to go to the You Tube site to do so. For once I don’t mind losing visitors to YT…

Castles in the sky…

Forget About the Moon

A thousand dreams.

Gone, like that. All those things they’d planned, lying awake, moonlight through the window, in each other’s arms. The places they’d go. The things they’d do. The projects they’d pursue together. The dreams.

Gone.

He knew in an instant they were as gone as though they’d never been.

Sometimes when people break up, there’s an uncertainty, a possibility everything can be put back together. Sometimes it happens. Mostly, he guessed, it didn’t.

But with her, with this woman he’d spent almost five years with… he knew.

It was as over as over gets.

Forget About the Moon

Forget about me
forget about you
forget all those pretty things
we were gonna do

forget about the moon
forget about the stars
forget about forever
we’ve already come too far

forget about the times
you lay by my side
forget how I thought you’d be
there all my life

forget about the moon…

forget about those dreams
they’re just castles in the sky
forget all those plans we made
lying awake at night

AYoS News

The new AYoS Song Database is now online in beta form!

I’ll be adding new functionalities to it over the next few weeks (depending on my availability) but as it stands now you can sort on song title and date (as well as whether or not the song is an instrumental) and there are links to the AYoS page for each song as well as links directly to the MP3 for each song. Additionally, there are links for other download and streaming options for many of the songs.

Every show that opens must close…

Without a Thought of You

Writing about artshow openings and trendy gallery crawlers seemed like a good idea on a stifling hot Saturday night… I guess. Anyhow, I did the easy part, recording the song below using my alternate, hot-weather recording rig (no mixing board, no tube compressors heating things up) and, you know, to me it shows, but maybe you’ll like the change.

Anyhow, as I ripped off my sweat-drenched headphones and threw them aside so I could race in and turn the big turb0 fan up to its destroy-all-ear-drums setting, I thought, enough for one night.

And Sunday came and went with me just glancing guiltily a few times at the link to the bare framework of this blog post on my desktop. (ie, the picture, the links and not much else.)

And now, here it is Monday and I have work to do.

So, I’m just gonna throw this tune at you and say, here… it’s Monday. Make what you will of it.

lyrics
Without a Thought of You

To think that I once
felt sorry for you
it’s all that i can
bring my puny brain to do

you must think me quite naive
and don’t think I ain’t gonna leave
I just want you to know
what you put me through:

I won’t ever have a dream
without knowning it won’t come true
I won’t ever think of lonely
without a thought of you

Fallin’ for you
was a stretch for me
all your arty friends,
important people to bleed

as every artists knows
every show that
opens must close
you can put it in 30 pt type
in my review:

I won’t ever think of lonely
without a thought of you
i won’t ever have a dream
without knowning it won’t come true

I won’t ever think
forever
without knowing it’s
really never

I won’t ever think of lonely
without a thought of you
