Each Word Was Like a Bullet

A note to fans of the Radio Orphans Podcast: we were hugely flattered to find ourselves leading off the latest episode (#332) but we have to admit, we were confused by the nice things Jaw Knee and Finneaus said about the video below, which, we’re afraid, is pretty boring, since it’s just a slow crawl of lyrics. We couldn’t help but wonder if perhaps they hadn’t confused it with on of our other, still-less-than-zero budget but more eventful videos (below or elsewhere on the site). But, nonetheless, we were excited to find ourselves in the podcast!

Each Word Was Like a Bullet

Each word was like a bullet
shot into my breast
Eacfh look was like a dagger
stabbed into my chest

Each tear was like a river
carry’ng to the sea
Each time I looked back to the shore
she was looking at me

My sins can’t be forgiven
My crimes won’t be undone
My shame it is forever
Peace for me… will never come

Each time I think forever
it’s tice as cold and long
each day I go without her
is a thousand lifetimes long

Each night goes on ’til never
and the morning just won’t dawn
Each time I think I’ve killed the pain
I remember that she’s gone

My sins can’t be forgiven
My crimes won’t be undone
My shame it is forever
Peace for me… will never come

Baby was a pistol way too hot to hold…

Baby Was a Friend of Mine

He sat there.

The phone was still in his hand. Finally he put the handset in the cradle.

Outside, the sun was so bright it seemed to bleach the color out of the street.

The view in front of him, his feet, the carpet under them, a loop of telephone cable, flattened out until it was just an abstract pattern.

The past seemed to exist all at once, the future not at all; it was unimaginable, a big hole in the middle of it where she would have been — a black hole that sucked all possible futures into nothingness.

Except he was still here.

Seconds ticked into minutes and then into hours. As the room settled into deeper and deeper shadow, he finally tried to stir himself.

It was easier to just sit there. If he sat there long enough, he thought, maybe he would just go to sleep. And, in the morning, he would wake to find her still there, that it was all a dream, a strange hallucination — or he would wake with the realization that, this time, she was gone forever…

lyrics
Baby Was a Friend of Mine

the first time I saw her
I knew it was too late
a shadow fell across my soul
I asked her for a date

Baby was a pistol
way too hot to hold
baby was a big mistake
some things you cant be told

but baby
was a friend of mine
baby was a friend of mine
she couldn’t keep from cheating
she never did stop lying
but baby was a friend of mine

Now, Baby drove me crazy
for almost seven years
then she drove away one day
with a repo-man from Sears

I found her in a Motel Six
out in San Berdoo
she was watching Lucy re-runs
and sniffing airplane glue

but baby
was a friend of mine…

Now the last time I saw her
she said that it was fate
I thought for sure you’d save me
(she) said as she turned away

I thought i saw a tear
slide across her face
I thought I saw forever
just as it slipped away

but baby
was a friend of mine
baby was a friend of mine
she couldn’t keep from cheating
she never did stop lying
but baby was a friend of mine

Just a foolish game…

World of Lies

Sometimes you wake up from a dream where everything has gone right… mistakes not made, chances not thrown away, love not lost…

Yeah, well… that’s dreamin’ for ya…

The beautiful spring morning you wake up to in the dream turns out to be an icy bedroom at 4 in the morning, sweaty covers kicked off and now too clammy and cold to pull up even as the spring morning slips away in whisps like smoke from an extinguished candle.

And it’s still two hours until dawn.

You close your eyes, afraid to dream — afraid to have it all only to lose it once again.

World of Lies

Meet me in the world of lies
meet me in the world of lies
let’s be hypnotized
meet me in the world of lies

You know that love is just a foolish game
Love always fades away
I know that you won’t stay
but at least you’re hear today

Meet me in the world of lies
let’s be hypnotized
Something in me dies
everytime a dream slips by

I know that I’ll always be alone
I know life is just to die
a wise man gives up the world
but I guess I’m just not that wise

Meet me in the world of lies
let’s be hypnotized
Don’t let this dream die
meet me in the world of lies

The Battle for the Truth

Curious about how AYoS really works? Read our new article on what goes on behind the scenes.

Paperback

T
here is a highly esoteric political philosophy held by a small — but once highly influential group of neo-Aristotelians — that appears to suggest that while ideas are immutable and pure, the reality some think underlies them is plastic and manipulable by those who know “the secret.”

Of course, like so many cryptomancers, these modern day magicians had a spectacularly hard time bending reality to their preconceptions. Well… actually they had a spectacularly hard time failing to bend reality.

But you can read about that in the funny papers.

Today’s song is about a far more local — yet seemingly simultaneously global — form of politics and war: the relationships between celebrities in love. And hate. And everything in between — although in the land of celebrity, it appears that love and hate appear to be quantum states. It’s either one or the other and nothin’ much lost in between.

lyrics
Paperback

Everywhere it sez you love me
but ya seldom read the truth
But when I look into your eyes
I can see who’s getting screwed

Get down, baby. Get packed,
get out tonight.
You’re gone, baby,
that’s right you heard me right.

A secret’s not a secret
unless it has been told
our private life’s not really ours
until all the rights are sold.

Get down, baby…

you will get some mileage
from that small town trollop trip
but the journey’s strictly one way, babe
and heavenward ain’t it

Get down, baby…

history will tell us who
won the battle for the truth
until that time let’s keep the reading light
your quickie paperback will do

Get down, baby…
get packed, get out tonight
you’re gone
baby
that’s right
you heard me right
