Each Word Was Like a Bullet

A note to fans of the Radio Orphans Podcast: we were hugely flattered to find ourselves leading off the latest episode (#332) but we have to admit, we were confused by the nice things Jaw Knee and Finneaus said about the video below, which, we’re afraid, is pretty boring, since it’s just a slow crawl of lyrics. We couldn’t help but wonder if perhaps they hadn’t confused it with on of our other, still-less-than-zero budget but more eventful videos (below or elsewhere on the site). But, nonetheless, we were excited to find ourselves in the podcast!

Each Word Was Like a Bullet

Each word was like a bullet
shot into my breast
Eacfh look was like a dagger
stabbed into my chest

Each tear was like a river
carry’ng to the sea
Each time I looked back to the shore
she was looking at me

My sins can’t be forgiven
My crimes won’t be undone
My shame it is forever
Peace for me… will never come

Each time I think forever
it’s tice as cold and long
each day I go without her
is a thousand lifetimes long

Each night goes on ’til never
and the morning just won’t dawn
Each time I think I’ve killed the pain
I remember that she’s gone

My sins can’t be forgiven
My crimes won’t be undone
My shame it is forever
Peace for me… will never come

Baby was a pistol way too hot to hold…

Baby Was a Friend of Mine

He sat there.

The phone was still in his hand. Finally he put the handset in the cradle.

Outside, the sun was so bright it seemed to bleach the color out of the street.

The view in front of him, his feet, the carpet under them, a loop of telephone cable, flattened out until it was just an abstract pattern.

The past seemed to exist all at once, the future not at all; it was unimaginable, a big hole in the middle of it where she would have been — a black hole that sucked all possible futures into nothingness.

Except he was still here.

Seconds ticked into minutes and then into hours. As the room settled into deeper and deeper shadow, he finally tried to stir himself.

It was easier to just sit there. If he sat there long enough, he thought, maybe he would just go to sleep. And, in the morning, he would wake to find her still there, that it was all a dream, a strange hallucination — or he would wake with the realization that, this time, she was gone forever…

lyrics
Baby Was a Friend of Mine

the first time I saw her
I knew it was too late
a shadow fell across my soul
I asked her for a date

Baby was a pistol
way too hot to hold
baby was a big mistake
some things you cant be told

but baby
was a friend of mine
baby was a friend of mine
she couldn’t keep from cheating
she never did stop lying
but baby was a friend of mine

Now, Baby drove me crazy
for almost seven years
then she drove away one day
with a repo-man from Sears

I found her in a Motel Six
out in San Berdoo
she was watching Lucy re-runs
and sniffing airplane glue

but baby
was a friend of mine…

Now the last time I saw her
she said that it was fate
I thought for sure you’d save me
(she) said as she turned away

I thought i saw a tear
slide across her face
I thought I saw forever
just as it slipped away

but baby
was a friend of mine
baby was a friend of mine
she couldn’t keep from cheating
she never did stop lying
but baby was a friend of mine

Betrayer

Burning and Bitter

She was consumed.

How could he? How dare he?

Why did he do it? She thought she had him in her pocket.

But… it all blew up in her face.

And then, when some of her supposed friends and coworkers just wouldn’t stop talking about it — couldn’t stop heaping hatred and bilious comments on himthe betrayer… well, she shared their outrage but at a certain point, she wished they would just shut up.

lyrics
Burning and Bitter

Burning and bitter
are my thoughts tonight
I can taste the poison
of the lies I heard tonight
I have seen my soul
like the falcon
you gunned down in flight

You’re a sorceress
you’re a whore
but you’re oh
so sweet in the night

Lyin’ Cheatin’ Baby Daddy Dog Little Boy

Baby Daddy

When I saw the article on MSNBC’s website, yesterday, I knew I had to write this song.

Of course, teen pregnancy is no joking matter.

And I’d like to think that the young people at the heart of the gossip blog post above do take their lives and the creation of a third life seriously.

But I gotta tell you — I had to laugh when I saw that Lynn Spears — Britney and Jamie Lynn Spears’ mom — was putting aside her book project indefinitely to address this latest Spears family crisis. The subject of her book? Tips on parenting…

[warning: the f-word is audible in this song]

Lyin’ Cheatin’ Baby Daddy Dog Little Boy

Listen to me brother — I
just can’t stay quiet anymore
We all saw it coming
knew you’d be sneakin’ out the door

no matter what she’s done
she’s got feelings
she’s not your trinket toy
You’re just a Lyin’ Cheatin’
Baby Daddy Dog Little Boy

she’s confused, she’s scared
what can you expect
she’s just a kid and now
her whole life is wrecked

Everything she thought she knew
everything she heard from you: suspect
she’s just a kid and now
her whole life is wrecked

Listen to me brother
you really f—-d up tonight
but you could start tomorrow
start to put things right

no matter what she’s done
she’s got feelings
she’s not your trinket toy
You’re just a Lyin’ Cheatin’
Baby Daddy Dog Little Boy
