Bankruptcy Court No. 9

Bankruptcy Court No. 9

Money, honey.

A sensible person doesn’t need all that much.

But sensible people sometimes — depsite their innate sensibility — get tangled up with people who aren’t sensible. Or anything close to it. People who refuse to acknowledge cold hard reality. People who invent their own reality and try to drag you in behind them. And when the reality you tried to share with them becomes an untenable fantasy, they leave you holding the big, stinky bag.

[BTW, you’ll notice me as songwriter being hoist on the petard of my compulsion to work contemporary technology into my lyrics. Floppy disks for those of you who began computing in this century were those… ]

Bankruptcy Court No. 9

my baby left me
left me sad and cryin…
she said I’m takin the plastic
leaving all these bills behind

I got a hearing Monday down in
bankruptcy Court Number 9…
My baby won’t be there with me
an neither wil my credit ine

Oh baby those checks you wrote
to the dress and jewelry stores
You hung so much bad paper
they won’t take my (dough) cash no more

Telecredit’s got a file on you
takes a thousand floppy disks
TRW blew a main frame
just counting your bad checks

You drove me to the poorhouse
and shoved me thru the door
but first ya picked my pocket
to make sure they was no more

There Ain’t No Heart in My Heart Anymore

Ain't No Heart in My Heart No More

Sometimes, back in the days of my fitful career as punkrocker-turned-folkie, I used to tag myself as the Bard of Bitterness, Denial, and Regret.

My ol’ man used to always say, If you’ve got a lemon tree, make lemonade.

[This was written on a stormy Saturday in Mexico I wrote about in the first week of the AYoS project, in my post for the song, Looking for Trouble. It was the second of three songs I wrote that day. I subsequently posted the third, Not One of Those Dreams.]

There Ain’t No Heart in My Heart Anymore

There ain’t no heart
in my heart no more
I don’t know where it’s gone
but it’s gone for sure
Maybe it went with you
when you went out that door
but there ain’t no heart
in my heart anyore

I feel like giving up and maybe I should
I cant go on and I know it’s no good
There aint no meaning
in life any more
no there aint no heart
in my heart anymore

The end just means
we begin again
where did you say I signed
I’ve lived this life
one two many times
I don’t think I can take it twice

Too many loves
too many lies
too many broken lives

too much night
too little love and way too little love
and nothing to show for a life

refrain
There ain’t no heart
in my heart no more
I don’t know where it’s gone
but it’s gone for sure
Maybe it went with you
when you went out that door
but there ain’t no heart
in my heart anymore

Pretty Little Head

I’ve got a pain in my head and a fire in my loins…
and a whole lot of empty in my heart.

Love… loneliness… longing… lust. A continuum of consternation. The engine of desire.

I thought we were getting way too moody here… Indian summer seems to have kicked in. And with the sudden rush of warm winds and blue skies comes… longing… desire… and lust.

full version (2000)

Pretty Little Head

Babe I’ve been alone for such a long time
this loneliness tearin’ me apart
I got pain in my head and a fire in my loins
and a whole lot of empty in my heart

If you had a thought in your pretty little head
Then maybe we could talk
today we’re alive tomorrow we’re dead
so I think right now we’d better rock
I look in your eyes and I wonder what
is going on in your mind
Are you really where you are
or where you’ll be tomorrow night?

your leg touches mine beneath the table
I feel your hand slide up my thigh
I feel kinda dizzy I feel kinda high
I feel like I’m gonna die

If you had a thought in your pretty little head
Then maybe we could talk
today we’re alive tomorrow we’re dead
so I think right now we’d better rock
