{"id":196,"date":"2006-03-27T01:30:00","date_gmt":"2006-03-27T01:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ayearofsongs.org\/blg\/?p=196"},"modified":"2015-11-01T13:59:54","modified_gmt":"2015-11-01T21:59:54","slug":"battle-of-the-sexes-explainer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ayearofsongs.org\/blg\/2006\/03\/27\/battle-of-the-sexes-explainer\/","title":{"rendered":"Battle of the Sexes Explainer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ayearofsongs.org\/ayearofsongs\/images\/blogimages\/MenAreStillStupid.jpg\" alt=\"Men Are Still Stupid\" align=\"left\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"6\" vspace=\"2\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 180%;\">S<\/span>ometimes a suddenly evident truth just reaches out, knocks you over the head and drags you to its cave.<\/p>\n<p>You know, something you&#8217;ve really <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">always known<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>It was an August night in 1990 and my next door neighbor and I were sitting in her kitchen, which opened on my backyard, talking, as we often did, since we&#8217;d known each other for years, about our friends and about life in general.<\/p>\n<p>Most of our mutual friends were then in their 20s or 30s, many of them musicians or other artists, and there was plenty of turmoil, of all varieties, not the least of it romantic and\/or sexual.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve forgotten what exactly, what scandal, what dilemna, what intricate arrangement, we were talking about, but I remember a few moments of silence, standing up, and saying, &#8220;Well&#8230; men are stupid. Women are crazy. It&#8217;s a system.
