Every show that opens must close…

Without a Thought of You

Writing about artshow openings and trendy gallery crawlers seemed like a good idea on a stifling hot Saturday night… I guess. Anyhow, I did the easy part, recording the song below using my alternate, hot-weather recording rig (no mixing board, no tube compressors heating things up) and, you know, to me it shows, but maybe you’ll like the change.

Anyhow, as I ripped off my sweat-drenched headphones and threw them aside so I could race in and turn the big turb0 fan up to its destroy-all-ear-drums setting, I thought, enough for one night.

And Sunday came and went with me just glancing guiltily a few times at the link to the bare framework of this blog post on my desktop. (ie, the picture, the links and not much else.)

And now, here it is Monday and I have work to do.

So, I’m just gonna throw this tune at you and say, here… it’s Monday. Make what you will of it.

lyrics
Without a Thought of You

To think that I once
felt sorry for you
it’s all that i can
bring my puny brain to do

you must think me quite naive
and don’t think I ain’t gonna leave
I just want you to know
what you put me through:

I won’t ever have a dream
without knowning it won’t come true
I won’t ever think of lonely
without a thought of you

Fallin’ for you
was a stretch for me
all your arty friends,
important people to bleed

as every artists knows
every show that
opens must close
you can put it in 30 pt type
in my review:

I won’t ever think of lonely
without a thought of you
i won’t ever have a dream
without knowning it won’t come true

I won’t ever think
forever
without knowing it’s
really never

I won’t ever think of lonely
without a thought of you

lyrics
Bold & Rational Men

Bold and Rational Men

Come now y’ bold and rational men
and march y’ straight ahead
y’ fear not the fire of the dragon
nor the carious teeth of death

And come now, lad
fear not the gods
you’ve often said we’re all alone
d’n’cha see your where your path must lie
straight into the unknowable
good speed now
you’re on your own

But wait now put your hand on the earth
and see where your life flows from
this good dark earth
is the mother of us all
y’know you are her son

and come and gaze into the sky
see how dark and deep
you are the prodigal lost in time
lost in a dream kept sleep

Danse Improvisée (Oo Bébé)

Danse Improvisée (Oo Bébé)

Partners will come
and partners will go,
waltzing off into the past.
The music goes on
long after we’re gone.
In the end,
there is only the dance…

The Dance, TK Major

When I was a little kid, at school my first year, our kindergarten teacher introduced us to a clever little game called musical chairs.

If you’ve never played this onetime childhood staple, the premise is simple. If you have 11 players you start with 10 chairs. Everyone stands in a circle around the chairs. When the music starts, the participants dance around the chairs in a ring. When the music is stopped abruptly, the participants must quickly find an unoccupied chair and sit down. Whoever is left over is out…

Before the music is started again, one chair is removed.

The next round begins. Each round eliminates another player until only one is left.

There’s a metaphor there, somewhere…
